Founded in the South Bay of Los Angeles in January 2011, The Supplement fuses Southern California punk with high-octane Blue Collar rock. The band's eponymous debut album, released in 2011, was met with strong critical reviews and led to a number of high-profile shows supporting some of the biggest names in punk rock. After a brief hiatus, The Supplement returned to the studio in 2013 to begin recording their hotly anticipated follow-up with new vocalist Chris Gyselinck joining founding members Brian Michaels on guitar, Paul Ensley on bass and Greg Yocum on drums. On 2014's Step Up From Zero, The Supplement continues to deliver the catchy, energetic rock that they are known for while broadening the scope of their music. Songs like "Satellites", "Avalanche" and "Nothing to Lose" showcase the band's love for the riff-based hard rock of the late 60's and early 70's. Other songs, such as "Soul System" and "Nowhere" find the band exploring a more alternative sound, while others including "Innocent Enough", "Ghost of the Day" and the title track prove that The Supplement hasn't left their Southern California Punk roots behind. Taken as a whole, Step Up From Zero showcases the ability of the band to dabble in several different rock-n-roll subgenres, while managing to maintain a distinct sound that is The Supplement's own.
